Facebook banned in thailand to silence coup protest

Thai military recently declared a coup d'etat.Which seemed not popular with people who in-turn protested. This is why it declared that it has blocked Facebook hopping that this will silence the on going protests. This is after the people kept complaining that they could not access their Facebook accounts. The government officials had initially said that it was a technical glitch .
